Overview

CF&I Steel, L.P. is seeking an Automation Engineer to join their Maintenance team at the Rocky Mountain Steel Mills in Pueblo, Colorado. The role focuses on developing and implementing control systems to improve production efficiency, steel quality, and equipment performance in a highly automated steel manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop new industrial processes and design process plants and equipment.
  • Support rolling mills and steelmaking production and maintenance.
  • Implement control systems to improve production times and energy consumption.
  • Analyze and improve programmable logic controllers (PLC) and human-machine interfaces (HMI).
  • Design performance indicators and create connections between control systems and information systems.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance support and problem resolution for control system issues.
  • Write requirements specifications and system architecture specifications related to steel production processes.
  • Manage projects effectively.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC, Fanuc, Modicon, and VFD.
  • Strong skills in MS Excel, Projects, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
