Overview

Kaiva Tech, LLC is actively seeking an Attorney for OCR Case Processing Support in Washington, D.C. This role involves providing direct support to the Office for Civil Rights by reviewing, analyzing, and processing civil rights complaints. The Attorney will draft legally sound documents and ensure compliance with federal civil rights authorities and OCR policies.

Key responsibilities

  • Review and assess incoming civil rights complaints for eligibility
  • Conduct legal and jurisdictional analyses under federal civil rights authorities
  • Evaluate complaint sufficiency, timeliness, and legal merit
  • Recommend appropriate case dispositions including dismissal or referral
  • Maintain accurate case files and supporting documentation
  • Utilize OCR Case Management System and Document Management platforms for tracking
  • Coordinate with complainants for necessary additional information
  • Support rapid resolution initiatives in compliance with OCR policies
  • Ensure compliance with federal privacy and information security requirements
  • Support OCR quality assurance initiatives for legal documentation
  • Manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a high-volume environment

Required skills

  • Strong legal analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of federal civil rights statutes and regulatory frameworks
  • Excellent legal writing and research capabilities
  • Ability to manage high-volume caseloads
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic case/document management systems
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction
  • Minimum of 4+ years of relevant legal experience
