Overview

Tonix Pharmaceuticals is looking for a highly motivated Associate Scientist II to join their R&D team in Frederick, Maryland. This position focuses on integrating computational protein structure analysis with molecular biology and protein biochemistry to contribute to host-directed therapeutic discovery, antiviral platforms, and vaccine design.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform protein structure modeling and design using advanced platforms.
  • Build and refine bioinformatics workflows for sequence and structural analysis.
  • Conduct molecular cloning, PCR, and bacterial transformation for expression constructs.
  • Carry out protein expression, purification, and characterization.
  • Collaborate with imaging and cell biology teams to validate computational predictions.
  • Develop computational pipelines and visualization tools.
  • Document and communicate results effectively to internal teams and external partners.
  • Stay updated on emerging computational biology technologies.

Required skills

  • B.S. or M.S. in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, or related field.
  • Hands-on experience with protein structure prediction tools.
  • Familiarity with molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning, expression).
  • Strong communication skills and cross-functional team collaboration.
  • Experience with cloud computing for protein modeling (Google Cloud, AWS).
  • Exposure to machine learning in protein design and immunology.
  • Prior experience in protein engineering for therapeutic applications.
  • Proficiency in Python, especially with ML/AI packages.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems and shell programming.
