Job Description

Overview

The City of San Luis is seeking a part-time Assistant City Prosecutor to participate in the prosecution of misdemeanors in the City court under the supervision of the City Prosecutor. The role will involve attending court hearings, analyzing cases, and preparing for trial, along with ensuring compliance with legal standards and procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Appear at routine hearings in municipal court
  • Review police reports and conduct legal analysis on charges
  • Prepare criminal cases for trial and interview witnesses
  • Ensure victims' rights are observed and assist with restitution requests
  • Monitor defendants' compliance with probation agreements
  • Conduct legal research and prepare legal documents
  • Support public relations by interacting courteously with citizens
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Required skills

  • Knowledge of Arizona criminal and civil statutes
  • Understanding of municipal court procedures and evidence rules
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Experience in negotiating cases and litigating in court
  • Proficiency in legal research methods and case management
  • Familiarity with software such as Prosecutor by Karpel, Microsoft Word, and Office 365
  • Juris Doctor Degree or appropriate education for Legal Paraprofessional license
  • Valid Arizona driver's license
