Overview

The 1st Assistant Engineer position at Grand River Navigation Company involves working aboard US flagged self-unloading vessels in a team-oriented and safety-focused environment. The role includes manning an Engineering Watch and maintaining various engine and deck equipment, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

  • Safely man an Engineering Watch
  • Complete tasks assigned by the Preventative Maintenance System
  • Maintain Engine and Deck Equipment such as Air Compressors, Winches, Sewage Units, Ballast Pumps, Potable Water Pumps, and OWS
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Vessel's Chief Engineer

Required skills

  • TWIC Card - Transportation Worker Identification Credential
  • United States Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC)
  • MMC Endorsement as 1st Assistant Engineer of Motor Propelled Vessels Unlimited Horse Power
  • Unexpired US Passport or Enhanced Driver's License for entry into Canada
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Experience working as part of a team
