Overview

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Yellow Iron Mechanic for their Spring Valley, New York location. The role involves performing inspections, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on heavy diesel machinery, primarily yellow iron equipment and diesel heavy trucks. Technicians will be responsible for understanding maintenance needs, operating the machinery during repairs, and may occasionally be on call for emergencies.

Key responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment including yellow iron machinery and diesel trucks
  • Perform preventative maintenance services and safety checks on vehicles
  • Estimate time and material costs for vehicle repairs and requisition new parts
  • Complete paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software
  • Review and assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with safety protocols and OSHA standards
  • Assist Sr. Technicians in project work

Required skills

  • At least 5 years of experience in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment repair
  • Computer diagnostic experience as a diesel technician
  • Experience with troubleshooting/repairing DPF systems and relevant diagnostic software (e.g., Premium Tech Tool, Allison
  • Working knowledge of DOT and OSHA standards
  • Ability to speak and read English
  • Valid driver's license; CDL a plus
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and meet physical requirements of the role
  • Must provide own tools
