Overview

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Yellow Iron Mechanic in Corona, New York. This role involves the inspection, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, and repair of heavy equipment and diesel trucks. The technician will work on various systems including electrical, hydraulic, and brake systems, ensuring the machinery is operational and safe.

Key responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment and diesel trucks
  • Perform preventative maintenance services and repairs
  • Estimate time and material costs for vehicle repairs
  • Conduct safety checks on vehicles
  • Complete required paperwork using fleet maintenance software
  • Assist with emergency breakdowns when on call
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area

Required skills

  • At least 5 years of experience in diesel mechanics and heavy equipment repair
  • Experience with troubleshooting/repairing DPF systems
  • Knowledge of computer diagnostic tools such as Premium Tech Tool
  • Familiarity with DOT and OSHA standards
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and meet physical requirements
  • Valid driver's license; CDL preferred
  • Computer diagnostic experience as a diesel technician
  • Sanitation or construction industry experience a plus
  • Proficient in reading and speaking English
