Overview

The Yard Person / Plant Operator at Peckham Industries is responsible for performing various plant and ground operations to ensure safe and efficient quarry production. This role involves operating heavy equipment, managing material flow, and supporting maintenance activities while adhering to safety protocols and operational standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Operate quarry plant equipment, haul trucks, and other mobile equipment safely
  • Transport raw materials and aggregates throughout the quarry
  • Monitor and adjust material handling processes to ensure efficiency and quality
  • Perform housekeeping and ground maintenance duties to maintain safe work areas
  • Complete inspections and operational checks to identify hazards
  • Load customer and company vehicles accurately and safely
  • Assist customers and support efficient material movement in the quarry
  • Support preventative maintenance and repairs of equipment
  • Report safety concerns and quality issues promptly
  • Collaborate with team members and adapt to changing operational needs

Required skills

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • One year of experience in heavy industrial environment preferred
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as haul trucks and excavators
  • MSHA certification or ability to obtain
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with electrical and welding experience a plus
  • Strong communication skills and teamwork abilities
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to work flexible hours including overtime and weekends
