Job Description

Overview

Wegmans is seeking a part-time Security Officer in Ithaca, NY, to ensure the safety and security of customers and employees. This role involves maintaining a visible presence, addressing safety concerns, and managing conflicts as they arise.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain high visibility near the front entrance and survey the outside parking areas
  • Escort employees and/or customers as requested
  • Intervene with and effectively diffuse customer conflicts
  • Inspect perimeter doors, windows, and gates to ensure high levels of security
  • Monitor store environment to deter undesirable activity on the property

Required skills

  • 1+ years full-time experience as a sworn police officer with arrest authority
  • Valid license to carry a firearm
  • Valid driver's license
  • Conflict management and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound judgement skills and ability to manage conflict and communicate effectively under pressure
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful environments
  • Ability to anticipate, analyze and identify opportunities
  • Associate's degree in criminal justice or related field (preferred)
  • Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (preferred)
  • AED, APR and FAC certified (preferred)
