Overview

The City of Danville, VA is seeking a Water and Gas Service Technician responsible for providing essential services to water and gas customers, including the installation and maintenance of meters and regulators, as well as addressing leak issues. The role requires emergency response capabilities and involves checking the safety and reliability of water and gas distribution systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Install and maintain water and gas meters and regulators
  • Turn meters on and off as needed
  • Service customer appliances and check for proper operation and leaks
  • Investigate causes of high bills and stopped meters
  • Respond to emergency situations related to water and gas leaks
  • Monitor odorant levels and recognize abnormal safety conditions
  • Fit pipes for new and altering services
  • Perform additional assigned duties as required

Required skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record
  • Intermediate knowledge in gas and water system management
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including heavy lifting and bending
  • Strong communication skills for customer interaction
