Job Description

Overview

The Vice President of Mission at Avera St. Luke's Hospital is responsible for integrating the organization's mission and values into strategic and operational decisions. Reporting to the Regional President and CEO, this role involves overseeing mission programs, managing the mission team, and collaborating with stakeholders to shape Avera's culture rooted in its foundational values.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the integration of heritage, tradition, mission, and values into Avera's operations.
  • Educate and inspire staff on how their work advances the mission and values.
  • Establish accountabilities for mission team roles and services.
  • Manage recruitment, selection, and retention consistent with Avera's mission.
  • Oversee the delivery and measurement of mission-related programmatic services.
  • Cultivate relationships with local clergy and community partners.
  • Identify and facilitate ethical discernment processes on clinical and organizational issues.
  • Participate in senior management candidate assessment regarding mission commitment.
  • Collaborate with leaders to ensure mission alignment in policies and strategies.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Catholic theology, health care mission, ethics, or equivalent.
  • Master's degree completed within three years of hire.
  • Practicing Roman Catholic with a solid understanding of Catholic theological tradition.
  • 4-6 years of leadership experience in a complex organizational structure.
  • Effective communication and team collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
