Overview

The Vision Teacher (TVI) at Northwestern Illinois Association (NIA) plays a crucial role in supporting students with vision impairments across 68 school districts in Northwestern Illinois. This position involves developing individualized education plans and delivering specialized instruction to help students succeed in their academic, social, and physical endeavors. The role also emphasizes collaboration with educational teams and ongoing professional development.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direct services to visually impaired students based on their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and specialists to implement support strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of services, assessments, and interventions.
  • Participate in IEP meetings to provide expertise on accommodations and assistive technology.
  • Engage in professional development to stay informed on best practices.

Required skills

  • Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator's License (PEL) with TVI endorsement
  • Proficiency in school-based technology and office equipment, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Experience in special education and individualized education planning
  • Knowledge of Braille and assistive technology
