Overview

The Northwestern Illinois Association (NIA) is seeking a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to provide specialized education support for students with vision impairments across 68 school districts in Northwestern Illinois. The role involves assessing students' needs, developing individualized education plans, and delivering targeted instruction in a collaborative educational environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direct services and specialized instruction to visually impaired students according to their IEPs
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and specialists to develop supportive strategies
  • Maintain accurate records of services, assessments, and interventions
  • Participate in IEP meetings to advise on visual impairment accommodations and instructional modifications
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and stay current with best practices in the field

Required skills

  • Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator's License (PEL) with TVI endorsement
  • Proficiency with school-based technology and office equipment
  • Experience with Braille and assistive technology
  • Knowledge of IEP development and collaboration techniques
