Overview

Olymel is seeking a Senior Veterinarian in pig production to join their dynamic team in Ange-Gardien, Quebec. This role involves supervising the health of complex swine herds, managing significant health challenges, and implementing advanced prevention programs while ensuring compliance and promoting animal welfare.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise the health of complex or large-scale pig herds
  • Diagnose and address major or recurring health issues
  • Deploy advanced prevention, biosecurity, and vaccination programs
  • Guide responsible use of veterinary medications
  • Manage crisis situations and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Conduct farm visits and emergency interventions as needed
  • Serve as a technical reference and mentor for veterinary and technical teams
  • Train and support on-farm teams in biosecurity and animal welfare
  • Develop sustainable relationships with producers
  • Contribute to technical and strategic directions of the organization
  • Analyze health, zootechnical, and economic data
  • Propose and implement performance optimization strategies
  • Collaborate with experts in the swine sector
  • Ensure compliance with animal welfare, hygiene, and traceability standards
  • Draft reports, recommendations, and performance follow-ups
  • Participate in innovation, research, or development projects
  • Represent the organization in professional or industrial instances

Required skills

  • Doctorate in veterinary medicine (D.M.V.)
  • Member in good standing with the OMVQ (or equivalent)
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in veterinary medicine for pigs
  • Recognized expertise in swine health and production
  • Leadership and scientific rigor
  • Excellent clinical judgment
  • Strong skills in data analysis, communication, and influence
  • Commitment to animal welfare and professional ethics
  • Valid driving license and availability for regular travel
