Job Description

Overview

The Utilities Mechanic for the City of Fort Lauderdale is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment within water treatment plants and pump stations. This position requires strong troubleshooting skills and adherence to safety compliance while performing various maintenance functions.

Key responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, inspect, install, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment including pumps, motors, and valves.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on facility machinery and equipment.
  • Review equipment manuals and maintenance records to develop preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Operate and care for hand and power tools used in maintenance and fabrication.
  • Submit daily and weekly reports of tasks and maintenance duties performed.
  • Assist other technicians with welding, brazing, soldering, and minor carpentry as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
  • Respond to off-duty emergency call-ins when required.
