Job Description

Overview

The Utilities Mechanic at the City of Fort Lauderdale is responsible for installing, maintaining, fabricating, and repairing mechanical equipment used in water treatment plants and pump stations. This role involves troubleshooting equipment, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Key responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, inspect, install, fabricate, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on water treatment machinery
  • Review equipment manuals and maintenance records to develop maintenance schedules
  • Operate and maintain hand and power tools
  • Submit daily and weekly reports on maintenance tasks
  • Assist other technicians like Diesel Technicians, welders, Electricians, and Machinists
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures
  • Perform stand-by duty for emergency call-ins

Required skills

  • Mechanical maintenance and repair experience (minimum 1 year)
  • Welding, soldering, and brazing skills
  • Knowledge of safety compliance
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B or higher with Air Brakes
  • Ability to read drawing specifications and manufacturer's data sheets
  • Experience in a utility system, preferably in water treatment plants
