The U.S. Army Chaplain role focuses on providing spiritual support and leadership to Soldiers and their families, essential for their morale and readiness. Chaplains can serve in Active Duty or Army Reserve, with an emphasis on community engagement and a commitment to religious service across diverse faith traditions.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide spiritual care and moral support to Soldiers and their families
  • Serve as a religious leader in various military units and environments
  • Engage in community ministries and crisis intervention
  • Promote ethical standards and conduct within the military context

Required skills

  • Basic theological education (minimum 72 hours)
  • Ordination and endorsement by a faith tradition
  • Experience in full-time professional ministry (minimum two years for Active Duty)
  • Strong leadership and counseling skills
