Overview

The U.S. Army Chaplain serves a vital role in the spiritual health of Soldiers and their families, providing spiritual guidance and support. Chaplains can serve in Active Duty or Army Reserve capacities, fulfilling a sacred calling to help Soldiers connect with God and support their moral and spiritual needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide spiritual care and counseling to Soldiers and their families
  • Serve in various military units, including Special Operations, infantry, and hospitals
  • Participate in training and operational missions to support the Army's mission
  • Engage in community ministries and support local populations
  • Represent diverse American denominations and faith traditions

Required skills

  • Basic theological education (72 hours or more)
  • Ordination and endorsement by a faith tradition
  • Military experience or strong leadership background
  • Crisis intervention and counseling abilities
  • Community engagement skills
