Job Description

Overview

The Boys' Club of New York is seeking an Urban Agriculture Program Specialist to lead urban agriculture programming for boys aged 12-18 in the Bronx. This part-time position involves collaborating with directors to deliver engaging activities focused on gardening and hydroponics, while promoting social and emotional development.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct urban gardening and hydroponics activities.
  • Integrate urban agriculture content with wellness, nutrition, and cooking programs.
  • Create and delegate watering and maintenance schedules for gardens.
  • Maintain inventory of gardening tools and supplies.
  • Teach gardening lessons to groups of 5-10 adolescents.
  • Monitor and document member attendance and skill growth.
  • Model and enforce health and safety practices.
  • Engage with members to encourage positive interactions.
  • Review and revise instructional content and methods.
  • Complete and submit all required program reports.

Required skills

  • 2 years experience in community gardens or hydroponics labs
  • 1 year experience working with school-aged children
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage groups and adapt to changing environments
  • Passion for environmental conservation and green spaces
  • Familiarity with Mott Haven and the surrounding neighborhoods
