Overview

Beazley Group is seeking an Underwriter for their Healthcare Professional Liability team in Los Angeles. The role involves underwriting Miscellaneous Medical & Life Sciences accounts, providing technical expertise, and maintaining market reputation while ensuring profitability and client satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

  • Underwrite a profitable portfolio of Miscellaneous Medical & Life Sciences business
  • Structure tailored solutions to win new business and retain existing clients
  • Monitor premiums, costs, and claims ratios, taking corrective actions as necessary
  • Evaluate risk premiums using rating models and other financial metrics
  • Supervise assistants to ensure compliance with underwriting policies
  • Advise clients on insurance and risk matters to ensure satisfaction
  • Maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients
  • Leverage networking opportunities to develop best practices within the team
  • Produce presentations and marketing literature as required
  • Adhere to Beazley's core values and compliance standards

Required skills

  • Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience in healthcare-related insurance
  • Proficient underwriting skills and strong analytical abilities
  • Experience in risk assessment, pricing, and portfolio management
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel including pivot tables and complex formulas
  • Strong communication skills for client and broker interactions
  • General commercial and financial knowledge
  • Knowledge of underwriting policy and practices
