Overview

The Underwriter - Healthcare Professional Liability at Beazley Group will focus on underwriting a Miscellaneous Medical & Life Sciences account within the Healthcare Team. The role involves providing technical expertise, managing client relationships, and ensuring the profitability of the underwritten accounts while adhering to Beazley's values and standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and underwrite a profitable portfolio of Miscellaneous Medical & Life Sciences business
  • Structure customized solutions to win new business and retain existing clients
  • Monitor premiums, costs, and claims ratios to ensure long-term profitability
  • Evaluate risk premiums considering various factors for profitability
  • Supervise and monitor assistants to ensure adherence to underwriting policies
  • Manage client relationships and advise on insurance and risk matters
  • Foster relationships with brokers and maintain awareness of Beazley products
  • Collaborate with peers to maximize business opportunities and profitability
  • Produce presentations and marketing literature as required

Required skills

  • 5+ years of underwriting experience in healthcare-related insurance
  • Proficient underwriting skills
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and complex formulas)
  • Excellent communication skills for negotiating and presenting underwriting decisions
  • Experience in client service and client management
  • General commercial and financial knowledge in the insurance industry
  • Knowledge of underwriting policies, philosophy, and processes
