Overview

The Ultrasonographer is responsible for independently performing ultrasound examinations, interpreting findings, and discussing results with radiologists. This role emphasizes safety, quality, and efficiency in delivering patient care within a supportive healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Performs various ultrasound examinations and interprets findings based on anatomy, physiology, and pathology knowledge.
  • Assists radiologists with invasive procedures.
  • Evaluates normal vs. abnormal test results in correlation with patient history and previous examinations.
  • Provides preliminary ultrasound results to attending physicians and surgeons.
  • Teaches imaging students and medical residents basic scanning methods.
  • Maintains ultrasound equipment and stocks medical supplies.
  • Performs quality control procedures and documentation.

Required skills

  • Associate's Degree
  • ARDMS certification
  • BLS certification
  • 1-2 years of ultrasound training
  • 1-2 years of previous ultrasound experience or clinical training
