Job Description

Overview

As a Tool Maker II at Charter Wire, you will play a crucial role in manufacturing and modifying tooling used in production by setting up and operating a range of tool room and CNC equipment. You will troubleshoot, improve machining processes, and ensure machinery operates accurately and efficiently while supporting production teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Mazak lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment
  • Program CNC machines, select tooling, and adjust for wear and material changes
  • Perform fabrication, machining, and preventative maintenance on tooling
  • Verify parts and tooling using precision measuring instruments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tooling issues
  • Build, modify, and repair tools, dies, fixtures, jigs, and attachments
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, or concepts to plan and lay out work
  • Assist with Root Cause Analysis on recurring production problems

Required skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Accredited Tool Maker Apprenticeship or 4+ years diversified tool/machine experience
  • 2+ years of tool making experience
  • CNC operation and programming experience, particularly with Mazatrol
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and sketches
  • Skilled in using precision measuring tools
  • Strong math, problem solving, and communication skills
