Job Description

Overview

The Speech Pathologist at CHRISTUS Health is responsible for assessing and implementing care for patients across various age groups, from pediatric to geriatrics, under the supervision of the Director of Physical Therapy. This role emphasizes adherence to standards of the Speech Therapy Practice Act and aims to provide comprehensive therapy for communication, cognition, and swallowing disorders.

Key responsibilities

  • Gather pertinent data from patient charts and discuss with physicians as necessary
  • Independently assess all patient types assigned
  • Formulate relevant, measurable, realistic, and attainable goals based on evaluations
  • Reassess patient progress regularly or as needed
  • Identify appropriate equipment and make referrals to social services or vendors
  • Design treatment plans addressing identified problems and needs
  • Deliver effective treatment focused on rehabilitation of communication, cognition, and swallowing disorders
  • Monitor patients during treatment and report adverse reactions
  • Develop innovative treatment methods, including group sessions and structured programs

Required skills

  • Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • Current Louisiana SLP License
  • BLS Certification
  • ASHA Certification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Certifications in Vital Stim, FEES, Metronome, Big and Loud preferred
  • Bilingual skills preferred
