Overview

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Test Engineering, Mechanical Tooling Designer/Engineer for its WESCAM division in Waterdown, Ontario. This role involves designing mechanical tooling to support product build, testing, and repair, working closely with machine shops and engineering teams, and creating detailed technical reports and specifications to meet project requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Design mechanical tooling to support product build, testing, and repair
  • Engage with machine shops and operations engineering for tooling assembly and verification
  • Create and update 3D mechanical models in CAD programs
  • Collaborate with customers to understand project specifications
  • Generate detailed drawings and Bills of Material (BOM) for tooling projects
  • Create tooling procedures and user manuals
  • Utilize PLM application (Team Center) for tooling documentation control
  • Provide 'Design For Manufacturability' input to the New Product Introduction process
  • Optimize manufacturing processes and reduce waste
  • Develop innovative solutions for manufacturing challenges
  • Assist with preventive maintenance activities
  • Mentor students working in the Tool design team

Required skills

  • Proficient in FEA for static and dynamics analysis
  • Knowledge of drawing standards and GD&T practices
  • Experience with 3D CAD systems, preferably SolidWorks
  • Knowledge in strength of materials and classical analysis methods
  • Understanding of machining and sheet metal manufacturing techniques
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping techniques
  • Bachelor's Degree with minimum 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent experience
