Job Description

Overview

The Telecom Engineer at PacifiCorp will design and troubleshoot telecommunications and networking systems, with a focus on provisioning and programming network equipment such as phone systems, switches, and routers. This role also entails serving as a consultant for networking solutions across business units and managing minor projects and system upgrades.

Key responsibilities

  • Design major networking or communications systems
  • Create networking diagrams and implement network programming
  • Consult with business units on networking needs
  • Manage minor projects or system upgrades
  • Assist with systems capacity planning and technology growth recommendations
  • Create and maintain project documentation
  • Write equipment specifications and manage equipment purchases
  • Design and test new telecommunications or network systems
  • Make budget recommendations for construction projects
  • Analyze system problems and implement solutions
  • Provide technical input for project planning
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Three years of telecommunications or networking experience
  • Ability to document system designs using CAD or equivalent software
  • Knowledge of trunking, circuit design, and various communication technologies
  • Basic knowledge of information technology terms and major vendors
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks concurrently
