Job Description

Overview

Care Options for Kids is seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to support students with hearing differences. The role involves providing specialized instruction and fostering communication development to help students fully access the general education curriculum.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction in auditory skills and listening development
  • Support speech and language development in collaboration with SLPs
  • Teach American Sign Language (ASL), cued speech, or total communication based on student needs
  • Adapt and modify curriculum to ensure accessibility
  • Conduct assessments related to hearing, communication, and learning needs
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, audiologists, SLPs, and families
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to goal development
  • Assist students in using hearing assistive technology
  • Promote language development and social-emotional growth
  • Assist with transition planning for post-secondary education and independent living
  • Maintain accurate documentation and monitor student progress

Required skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field
  • State certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Proficiency in communication modalities, preferably ASL
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Experience working with students across a range of hearing abilities and educational settings
