Overview

Care Options for Kids is looking for a compassionate Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to support students with hearing differences in achieving their academic and social potential. This role involves providing specialized instruction, fostering communication development, and ensuring accessibility to the general education curriculum.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction in auditory skills, speech and language support, and communication modalities (ASL, cued speech, or total communication)
  • Adapt and modify curriculum for accessibility
  • Conduct assessments related to hearing, communication, and learning needs
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, audiologists, SLPs, and families
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to goal development
  • Support students with hearing assistive technology
  • Promote language development and social-emotional growth
  • Assist with transition planning for post-secondary education and independent living
  • Maintain accurate documentation and monitor student progress

Required skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field
  • State certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Proficiency in communication modalities (e.g., ASL preferred)
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Experience working with students across a range of hearing abilities and educational settings
