Overview

Duke Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist for its Raleigh Campus, which is dedicated to providing comprehensive surgical care across various specialties. Surgical Technologists play a crucial role in preparing and assisting with surgical procedures while ensuring patient safety and sterility in the operating room.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room with appropriate instruments and supplies
  • Establish and maintain sterile field during surgical procedures
  • Assist in passing instruments and perform counts of sponges, needles, and instruments
  • Take calls and rotate shifts as required
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures in the clinic
  • Assist physicians during patient examinations and procedures
  • Collect and label laboratory specimens for processing
  • Reinforce postoperative instructions under direction of physician or RN
  • Remove sutures/staples and change dressings as directed
  • Schedule and coordinate surgical cases and update patient medical records
  • Assist in the training of newly hired technologists
  • Communicate effectively with patients, staff, and physicians
