Overview

The Surgical Technologist at OhioHealth prepares for surgical procedures, ensuring the operating room is stocked with necessary equipment and instruments, and assists the surgical team during operations. This role is critical for maintaining sterile conditions and supporting patient care in a high-stakes environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare for surgical cases by obtaining and ensuring availability of needed supplies and equipment.
  • Establish and maintain sterile field during surgical procedures.
  • Assist the surgeon as a second assistant and during various surgical tasks.
  • Participate in post-procedure cleaning and restocking of the operating room.
  • Mentor new associates and contribute to unit operations for efficiency.

Required skills

  • BLS - Basic Life Support certification
  • Completion of accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years' experience as a Surgery Technician (preferred)
  • Ability to anticipate surgeon's needs and communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and surgical procedures
