Job Description

Overview

The Vascular Physician Assistant (PA) role involves providing advanced clinical care to patients with vascular diseases in various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and procedural environments. The PA collaborates with vascular surgeons and a multidisciplinary care team to evaluate and manage patients, assist in surgical procedures, and ensure continuity of care for those with arterial and venous conditions.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, including histories and physical examinations
  • Evaluate and manage patients with arterial, venous, and lymphatic disorders
  • Assist in the operating room and procedural suite, including first-assist duties
  • Manage preoperative and postoperative vascular surgery patients
  • Conduct daily inpatient rounds and coordinate care plans
  • Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests, imaging, and laboratory studies
  • Perform bedside procedures within scope of practice, such as line placement and wound care
  • Manage anticoagulation therapy and vascular medications under physician supervision
  • Monitor patients for post-procedural complications and intervene as appropriate
  • Provide patient and family education regarding procedures and long-term disease management
  • Coordinate care with wound care, podiatry, interventional radiology, and other specialties
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and departmental initiatives

Required skills

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current national certification as a Physician Assistant
  • Active or eligible state licensure
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Prior experience in vascular surgery, general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, or critical care preferred
  • Strong clinical assessment and procedural skills
  • Knowledge of vascular disease processes and postoperative management
  • Ability to function effectively in fast-paced surgical environments
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong organizational and documentation abilities
