Overview

The Surgery - General Physician Assistant at UC Davis Health is responsible for providing independent advanced clinical expertise in surgical services and hospitalist care. This role involves caring for a diverse patient population in inpatient settings, participating in complex medical decision-making, and fulfilling educational responsibilities for staff and patients.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to a diversified patient population
  • Participate in patient and staff education
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and accountability for own practices
  • Conduct non-invasive and invasive surgical procedures
  • Make patient management decisions independently, with consultation as necessary
  • Engage in professional development and quality evidence-based practice
  • Contribute to research and education within the department

Required skills

  • California Licensed Physician Assistant (PA)
  • DEA Certificate within 3 months of hire
  • National board certification as a physician assistant (NCCPA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications
  • Master's degree or PhD from an accredited PA program
  • One year or greater experience as a PA in an adult inpatient setting
  • Ability to cope with personal stress and communicate effectively
  • Self-direction and organizational skills for independent functioning
