Job Description

Overview

The Summer Camp Lifeguard for Camp Be a Kid at United Counseling Service is responsible for supervising and providing recreational activities to children with mental health needs. Working under the direction of the Therapeutic Activities Program Coordinator, the lifeguard will perform a variety of tasks to help develop independence and social skills among the campers during a six-week program.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide recreational activities and services to children in a professional manner
  • Support crisis intervention as directed by the program coordinator
  • Act as a role model for clients and the community
  • Follow treatment plans and supporting documents
  • Complete agency paperwork including daily and weekly time sheets
  • Provide needed information to staff and families confidentially
  • Serve as advocate and liaison for individuals served
  • Participate in team meetings and provide consultation on child's needs

Required skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Open Water / Waterfront Lifeguard Certification
  • Experience working with children and youth
  • Experience in human services preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective time management skills
