Overview

Dedicated School Staffing is seeking Substitute Special Education Teachers for the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West. This role is crucial for providing instructional support and classroom management when full-time teachers are absent, ensuring continuity of learning for students with diverse needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction based on teacher's lesson plans, IEP goals, and classroom routines
  • Support students with a range of disabilities, including learning, emotional, behavioral, physical, and developmental needs
  • Implement accommodations, modifications, and behavior support strategies as outlined in student plans
  • Maintain a structured, positive, and respectful classroom environment
  • Assist students with academic tasks, communication needs, mobility, or personal care
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals, aides, and support staff
  • Monitor student progress and behavior, documenting relevant information
  • Use effective classroom management strategies to promote engagement
  • Communicate professionally with staff and administrators regarding student needs
  • Uphold school policies, confidentiality requirements, and safety procedures

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • Valid substitute teaching license or higher teaching license
  • Clean criminal background checks
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow established lesson plans and adapt instruction
  • Experience working with students with disabilities
  • Understanding of inclusive practices and special education principles
  • Basic knowledge of behavior management strategies
  • CPI or other crisis intervention training
