Overview

Dedicated School Staffing is looking for reliable Substitute American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to provide on-call interpreting services in Lorain City Schools. The role focuses on ensuring effective communication between Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing individuals and hearing staff and students.

Key responsibilities

  • Interpret spoken English into ASL and ASL into spoken English in various settings
  • Maintain message accuracy, register, intent, and cultural equivalence while interpreting
  • Follow professional standards and ethical guidelines
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and service providers to support accessible communication
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student and staff information
  • Support students' access to instruction and extracurricular activities
  • Collaborate with teachers to understand lesson plans and vocabulary
  • Follow IEP-related communication access guidelines

Required skills

  • Fluency in American Sign Language and spoken English
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret accurately in educational settings
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid educational aide permit or higher teaching license
  • Ability to work flexible, on-call, or short-notice assignments
  • Knowledge of Deaf culture and accessibility best practices
