Overview

Dedicated School Staffing is looking for reliable and enthusiastic Substitute ASL Interpreters to provide on-call interpreting services within Lorain City Schools. This part-time role involves supporting effective communication between Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing individuals and hearing staff and students while maintaining inclusive educational environments.

Key responsibilities

  • Interpret spoken English into ASL and ASL into spoken English in various settings
  • Maintain message accuracy, register, intent, and cultural equivalence while interpreting
  • Follow professional standards and ethical guidelines
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and service providers for accessible communication
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student and staff information
  • Support students' access to instruction and extracurricular activities
  • Understand lesson plans and vocabulary from teachers
  • Follow IEP-related communication access guidelines

Required skills

  • Fluency in American Sign Language and spoken English
  • Ability to interpret accurately in educational settings
  • Clean criminal background checks
