Job Description

Overview

The Student Success Advisor at Walden University plays a vital role in ensuring that students achieve their academic goals through personalized support and proactive outreach. This position involves facilitating student engagement and providing guidance on university policies, degree requirements, and academic success strategies for online learners.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary guide to keep students on track to meet educational goals.
  • Connect with new students upon acceptance to ensure readiness and address outstanding matters.
  • Assist students in understanding and completing degree requirements and course registration.
  • Advise students on university policies and academic procedures.
  • Provide outreach to at-risk students to enhance academic success.
  • Monitor students to identify at-risk scenarios and improve success strategies.
  • Collaborate with university staff to address student inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Encourage students to take accountability for their academic decisions.
  • Support students in acclimating to the graduate lifestyle and connecting with the online community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including being a designated Campus Security Authority.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3 years of experience in a service-oriented or university setting
  • Strong commitment to education and counseling or coaching skills
  • Strong problem-solving and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to resolve student issues from request to resolution
  • Experience with multiple databases and student platforms
  • Ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Creative and innovative with the ability to work independently and in a team
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations
  • Familiarity with online learning and Internet technology is a plus
