Overview

The Student Accounts Specialist at Whitworth University is responsible for providing accurate and compassionate financial services to students and their families. This role includes managing student billing, account reconciliation, and collections while delivering exceptional customer service.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage assigned portfolio of student accounts including auditing, posting changes, and adjustments
  • Deliver excellent service to students, parents, and stakeholders via phone, email, and in person
  • Initiate and manage payment plans and perform outreach and collection activities
  • Research delinquent accounts and coordinate placement with collection agencies
  • Prepare and process payments from external agencies
  • Monitor and reconcile disbursements, refunds, and scholarships
  • Assist with institutional loan document preparation and payment processing
  • Support daily cashiering operations and compliance with cash management policy
  • Stay current on institutional policies and federal regulations related to student accounts
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to team planning

Required skills

  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting, billing, or collections
  • Familiarity with financial systems and data reconciliation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and billing software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to provide empathetic customer service
  • High ethical standards for handling sensitive financial information
