Job Description Job Description Ironworkers Local 597 is seeking skilled and motivated individuals to join our team of union Ironworkers. We provide highly trained manpower for projects across North Florida and Southeast Georgia, including structural steel erection, structural welding, and heavy industrial maintenance.Position OverviewAs a Union Ironworker, you'll be part of a workforce that builds and maintains the backbone of industrial and commercial infrastructure. Our members work on projects that demand precision, strength, and safety-ranging from erecting structural steel to welding and maintaining industrial facilities.Key ResponsibilitiesStructural Steel: Lay out, connect, and erect steel columns, beams, and girders.Rigging & Hoisting: Safely rig, signal, and guide loads using cranes and hoists.Structural Welding: Perform SMAW (stick) and FCAW welding on structural members, following AWS D1.1/D1.5 codes and jobsite specifications.Industrial Maintenance: Maintain, repair, and retrofit industrial plants and mills-including conveyors, platforms, catwalks, and heavy equipment supports.Safety: Follow OSHA, ANSI, and site-specific safety procedures to protect yourself and your crew.QualificationsPrior experience in structural steel erection, welding, or industrial maintenance preferred (but training is available for motivated candidates).Ability to work at heights and in all weather conditions.Welding certifications (AWS D1.1/D1.5) are a plus. While our primary jurisdiction is the NE Florida and SE Georgia region, contractors from across the continent regularly bring diverse projects to our area, creating steady opportunities for our members.As a Local Union, we provide our members with strong representation, fair wages, and comprehensive benefits. In addition, members have access to free, ongoing training through our apprenticeship and journeyman upgrade programs, ensuring they are prepared for a wide range of work opportunities.Upon acceptance into Local 597, new members serve a maximum six-month probationary period. Following this period (if not before or during), full benefits are available, including health and dental insurance, as well as pension contributions to support long-term financial security.
