Job Description

Overview

The Store Security Specialist at Wegmans in Lanham, Maryland, plays a vital role in maintaining safety for customers and employees. This position involves communication between the Asset Protection team and store leadership, focusing on creating a safe shopping environment while enhancing customer service.

Key responsibilities

  • Prioritize safety in the store to create a positive environment
  • Analyze trends and data to maximize sales and minimize theft
  • Monitor activities to prevent loss, including apprehending shoplifters
  • Foster relationships with community partners and emergency responders
  • Coordinate and manage Closed-Circuit TV (CCTV) systems
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide support to employees and customers
  • Conduct investigations as directed by leadership

Required skills

  • 1+ years experience as a sworn police officer
  • Valid license to carry a firearm
  • Valid driver's license
  • Conflict management and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound judgment and ability to manage conflict under pressure
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field (preferred)
  • Experience in security or loss prevention (preferred)
  • Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or First Responder experience (preferred)
  • Leadership experience in a retail setting (preferred)
