Overview

The Statewide Cottage Foods Education Specialist at the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources is responsible for leading the development and implementation of a statewide public education and volunteer certification program under the UC Master Food Preserver Program. This role focuses on providing training and technical support to cottage food operators, while collaborating with various stakeholders to promote food safety and entrepreneurship in California's food industry.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and establish a statewide cottage food operator public education and volunteer certification program.
  • Design and develop new statewide curriculum, guidelines, and certification materials for UC Master Food Preserver volunteers.
  • Coordinate training workshops and webinars for cottage food operators on food safety and compliance.
  • Collaborate with UC ANR academics and maintain relationships with environmental health departments and regulatory agencies.
  • Advise on changes and improvements to Cottage Foods Operator programs and conduct data analysis for program evaluation.
  • Foster partnerships with cottage food operators, industry groups, and advocacy organizations.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in food science, nutrition, public health, or a related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of food safety, nutrition, and food preservation techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills with problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Experience developing and delivering educational and outreach programs.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and online applications for remote teamwork.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
