Overview

Matrec, a division of GFL, is seeking a Human Resources Intern to support the HR team in Quebec and Eastern Ontario. This temporary position offers a valuable opportunity for students to gain practical experience in human resources operations, including onboarding, employee management, and compliance with Quebec labor laws.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing new employee files and onboarding processes.
  • Participate in projects to enhance employee and manager experience.
  • Maintain employee records in the HR information system (Workday) under strict confidentiality.
  • Provide support to employees and managers.
  • Collaborate with HR centers of expertise to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Help organize internal events (recognition activities, team-building).
  • Update internal policies, employee manuals, and job descriptions.
  • Conduct small legal research in labor law to support the team.

Required skills

  • Pursuing a degree, certificate, or diploma in human resources, industrial relations, administration, or a related field.
  • Fluency in French and good knowledge of English.
  • Basic understanding of Quebec labor laws.
  • Proficient in Workday.
  • Strong skills in Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential data.
