Overview

The Staffing & Background Supervisor at the Hernando County Sheriff's Office plays a key role in leading and coordinating staffing, recruitment, and background investigation activities for law enforcement and administrative personnel. This position requires close collaboration with executive leadership and command staff, ensuring compliance with laws and agency standards while adapting to a dynamic environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and support to Human Resources team members involved in staffing and recruitment processes
  • Plan and oversee agency-wide recruitment and selection processes
  • Manage the background investigation process for both sworn and non-sworn applicants
  • Monitor staffing levels to ensure alignment with budget allocations and operational readiness
  • Administer applicant tracking system (ATS) and HRIS platforms for accurate data management
  • Collaborate with command staff and departmental managers to meet staffing needs
  • Assist in developing and updating job descriptions and support hiring managers throughout the selection process
  • Gather and analyze HR metrics to inform decision making

Required skills

  • Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field
  • Five years of experience in human resources, recruitment, or talent acquisition
  • Supervisory experience with oversight of staff and processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of human resources principles and employment law
  • Experience with HRIS systems and data analysis
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
