Overview

The Staff Research Associate 2 at the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources will conduct research and extension projects focused on orchard systems. This role aims to enhance the viability and productivity of various orchard programs in specific California counties, collaborating with university affiliates and stakeholders on grant writing, data collection, and report preparation.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide research support without close supervision, including project management and field data collection
  • Assist with the design and implementation of field experiments based on scientific literature
  • Lead the writing of research grant proposals in coordination with Advisors
  • Perform data collection and entry, producing summary statistics, tables, and graphs
  • Draft reports and articles, reviewing drafts to ensure accuracy of data findings
  • Assist in maintaining an extension program and managing content for the website
  • Communicate with collaborating growers and orchard managers regarding research tasks
  • Maintain test plot equipment and supplies in functioning order

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, agricultural science, or related field
  • Minimum one year of field research experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and statistical software such as R
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform physical work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Experience in data collection, input, and analysis
  • Experience writing technical reports
