Overview

The Staff Engineer - Construction - Civil/Structural position at the International Code Council involves performing technical evaluations of building products for code compliance. The role includes developing acceptance criteria, writing evaluation reports, and providing expert assistance to building departments across the United States.

Key responsibilities

  • Evaluate test reports and technical data submitted by applicants
  • Develop technical criteria for innovative building products and methods
  • Prepare correspondence and draft reports on code compliance
  • Assist building departments with code compliance expertise
  • Participate in Evaluation Committee hearings
  • Represent ICC-ES at technical meetings and functions
  • Stay informed on developments in the building construction field
  • Travel for conferences and other professional engagements

Required skills

  • University degree in civil or structural engineering
  • Professional registration/license to practice engineering
  • Five years of experience in construction, code development, or product testing
  • Knowledge of modern design and construction methods
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem-solving ability for complex engineering issues
  • Team collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of codes and design standards
  • Understanding of testing standards and quality control processes
  • Experience with product testing, fire testing, and seismic design is a plus
