Job Description

Overview

The Staff Engineer - Construction - Civil/Structural will work with the International Code Council, which is a leader in developing model codes and building safety solutions. This role involves evaluating code compliance of various building products and methods, developing acceptance criteria, and assisting building departments across the United States.

Key responsibilities

  • Evaluate test reports and technical data for code compliance
  • Develop technical criteria for innovative building products
  • Prepare correspondence and reports regarding product compliance
  • Provide expert assistance to building departments
  • Participate in ICC-ES Evaluation Committee hearings
  • Represent ICC-ES at technical body meetings
  • Keep abreast of developments in building construction
  • Travel as necessary for conferences and meetings
  • Perform other assigned tasks

Required skills

  • University degree in civil or structural engineering
  • Professional registration/license to practice engineering
  • At least five years of experience in construction or building code enforcement
  • Proficiency in engineering specialties and knowledge of design standards
  • Ability to solve complex engineering problems
  • Effective communication skills with technical and non-technical personnel
  • Knowledge of test standards and quality control processes
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience with modern design methods and materials
  • Proficient in seismic design (preferred)
  • Experience with product testing and fire testing (preferred)
