Overview

The Staff Engineer - Construction - Civil/Structural position at the International Code Council involves assessing the code compliance of building products and materials. This role supports ICC-ES's mission of ensuring safe and sustainable building solutions through technical evaluations and product certification.

Key responsibilities

  • Evaluate test reports and technical data for code compliance
  • Develop acceptance criteria for innovative building products
  • Prepare correspondence and evaluation reports on product compliance
  • Provide expert assistance to building departments across the U.S.
  • Participate in Evaluation Committee hearings and represent ICC-ES at technical meetings
  • Stay updated on developments in the building construction field
  • Travel to attend conferences and meetings as necessary

Required skills

  • University degree in civil or structural engineering
  • Professional registration/license in engineering
  • At least five years of experience in construction or product testing
  • Proficiency in modern design and construction methods
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to independently solve complex engineering problems
  • Knowledge of building codes, design standards, and quality control processes
  • Membership in relevant technical organizations like ASTM, ACI, or UL
  • Proficiency in seismic design is a plus
  • Experience with product and fire testing is a plus
