Overview

Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking a Staff Counsel to join their legal team in Manchester, New Hampshire. This role is primarily remote and involves managing moderately complex civil litigation matters, focusing on claims for monetary damages or compensation for personal injuries or property damage. Key responsibilities

  • Independently manage all phases of litigation involving claims of moderate to heavy value
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and legal documents
  • Lead settlement negotiations and participate in hearings, trials, and mediations
  • Support Senior Trial Counsel and Senior Litigation Counsel in case handling
  • Develop and implement advanced legal strategies for discovery and trial preparation
  • Utilize advanced e-discovery tools and case management systems
  • Provide legal advice and build relationships with clients and Claims Representatives
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks in collaboration with senior attorneys
  • Design and conduct training for legal and claims departments
  • Mentor junior attorneys and elevate team performance
  • Ensure legal documentation is accurate and compliant with relevant regulations
  • Identify opportunities for process automation and workflow enhancements

Required skills

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree
  • Admission to the bar in New Hampshire
  • Minimum 5 years of trial attorney experience, preferably in insurance law
  • Proven experience in managing moderately complex litigation
  • General knowledge of insurance law and related regulations
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills
  • Proficient in advanced e-discovery tools and legal case management software
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead legal staff
  • Excellent communication and client relationship management skills
  • Commitment to ethical legal practice and compliance
