Overview

The Staff Attorney for the Family Defense Project at Neighborhood Legal Services will provide high-quality legal representation to parents in dependency cases. This role involves engaging with clients, preparing legal documents, and advocating for their interests in court while working as part of an interdisciplinary legal team.

Key responsibilities

  • Represent parents' interests by preparing, filing, and arguing pleadings
  • Maintain open communication with clients and support team
  • Conduct client interviews and legal research as needed
  • Develop case strategy and theory for representation
  • Prepare various legal pleadings and represent clients in negotiations and trials
  • Monitor and maintain case files according to program policy
  • Assist with project sustainability and evaluations

Required skills

  • Strong computer knowledge and skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills
  • Efficient transportation for client visits
