Overview

The Staff Attorney at Liberty Mutual Insurance is responsible for independently managing moderately complex civil litigation matters related to insurance claims. This primarily remote role involves representing policyholders, conducting legal research, drafting documents, leading negotiations, and ensuring compliance with legal standards. The position requires strong client relations skills and a commitment to ethical legal practices.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of litigation involving claims of moderate to heavy value.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft legal documents.
  • Lead settlement negotiations and participate in trials and mediations.
  • Support senior counsel in case handling throughout the litigation process.
  • Develop and refine legal strategies for discovery and trial preparation.
  • Utilize e-discovery tools and case management systems for workflow efficiency.
  • Advise clients and manage client relationships effectively.
  • Evaluate and mitigate legal risks in collaboration with clients.
  • Design and conduct training for junior attorneys and legal support staff.
  • Ensure legal documents are accurate and compliant with laws and regulations.
  • Identify opportunities for process automation and organizational improvements.

Required skills

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the bar in New York
  • Minimum of 5 years of trial attorney experience, preferably in insurance law
  • Experience managing moderately complex litigation
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills
  • Proficient in e-discovery tools and legal case management software
  • Strong communication and client relationship management skills
  • Ability to mentor and lead junior attorneys
  • Commitment to ethical legal practice and compliance
